Wintle's Poem The Man Who Thinks He Can

In Wintle’s poem “The Man Who Thinks He Can,” he speaks about how success is dependent off of self-imagery. The mindset that one confides, sets an example for anything he can achieve. “Success begins with a fellow’s will; it’s all in the state of mind.” Man cannot accomplish anything if he tells himself that he won’t. Only by believing will he truly make an act of gratitude. If someone doesn’t possess self-assurance, how will one ever prove wrong. People take risks daily; going out of their comfort zones, because they believe in their heart what can be. How will ‘first’ times ever come to be if everyone always hides away their confidence, due to the mocking of others. In history, the main reason you’d have any rights were if you were a straight, white male. Over the years, people of all races, genders, and sexualities have gained confidence; steering them to earn the rights everyone has today. One’s definition of success would usually involve an increase of education, money, or fame. On the other side, some people don’t have as big of a goal. Maybe stealing that thing from the store they really wanted, or collecting drugs would be their definition of success, it is their form of improvement. Everybody’s mind works differently, people have different desired visions, different types of confidence, and different planned goals. Success is when those dreams become a reality, when you prosper in whatever it is you want. Though others may frown upon these sort of humans, it’s what makes them happy, and what keeps them content.
