Children of a Legend

Winston Churchill is known for many things, but his children are not as known. Winston and his wife, Clementine, had five children together. Four out of the five were girls, which at some times took a toll on Winston himself. Winston and Clementine had Diana, Randolph, Mary, Sara, and Marigold. Winston loved his kids very much because his father was not there for him that much. All of his kids except one grew up to live somewhat successful lives. Some kids were more well known than others, but just having the last name “Churchill” makes them stand out in the world. From being professional journalists to starring in famous movies, the Churchill kids have a lot to offer. On

Mary Churchill was born on September 15th, 1922 in Chartwell, United Kingdom. She had a very good and healthy life. Mary has always had a kind heart and an example of this is that she would take care of orphaned lambs when she was a young child. She was destined to do great things and wanted to help others. As Mary got older, she wanted to be more involved with the war. Overhearing a conversation between her father and an official, she found out that England needed women to help with aircrafts. She enlisted herself without telling her father. Her father trusted her very much and even had her at the meeting where Winston, Hary S. Truman, and Joseph Stalin planned out what would happen after the war. Marriage wise, she had a rough go. Most of her relationships were bad, except for one. Christopher Soames was the man Mary was going to marry. He was a Member of the Coldstream Guards, one of the most ancient regiments in the British Army. He was a Tory Politician and an ambassador to France. In 1972, Christopher was knighted and was named Barron in 1978 by Queen Elizebeth. There is no doubt that with all of Winston Churchill’s many accomplishments (as I will mention later) he was a pretty amazing person, but as you might not know it didn’t always necessarily start out that way. For example when he was little he was often lonely and felt that he was often ignored by his parents. Lady Randolph Churchill (Jennie Churchill) and Lord Randolph Henry Spencer-Churchill, (Winston’s parents) had a very busy lifestyle, his father was very active in his job as a politician/ statesman, and his mother had an extravagant social life and often went to parties. Later Winston stated that he loved his parents but it sometimes felt that they were “Loved from a difference”. This left Churchill with his brother John (or Jack as he…

It may seem surprising that a woman I highly admire was a former British monarch, but Princess Diana was the people’s princess. Her empathy and elegance allowed her to have a special connection with children and the mentally ill, the two groups of people she tried to help the most. Like viewers outside Buckingham Palace, Princess Diana was an outsider in the royal family, a feeling that I have been able to relate to almost my entire high school career. I would love to have a conversation with Princess Diana about her connection with the rich and poor of the world. The causes that she fought for more than twenty years ago are still relevant today.…
