Violet Oaklander is an author to the book Windows to Our Children that we are discussing in our Therapeutic Activities class. Violet Oaklander has a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology, a Master of Arts in Marriage, Family and Child Counseling, a Master of Science in Special Education with emotionally disturbed children, and is a certified Gestalt Therapist. Violet Oaklander uses different concepts of philosophy when working with Children and Adolescence. In this assignment, I will be discussing and explaining five different philosophies’ that Violet uses in her line on work. In this assignment, I will be discussing her philosophy of: Note taking during a session, how she deals with “The problem”, how the first session should be held, how the office …show more content…
Oaklander states that if the child wishes to see what notes she is taking, she does not mind to share it with them. She feels that the child deserves to know what she is saying about them. Dealing with the Problem: Violet Oaklander philosophy on “dealing with the problem” is that she first asks the parents to wait outside while she privately talks to the child. Then she may say something along the lines of: “What I can do to make things better”. She also states something about confidentiality. If there is time, she tries to interact with the child through things that are in her office such as: “Games, toys, paint table and sand tray”. She makes sure that the child feels safe and comfortable for a therapeutic environment. First Session: Violets viewpoint on the first session has many different sections. She has Intake & Assessment portion, Child Present, Reports & Documents etc. Violet feels as though an intake form is not used in the initial interview session. Intake consists of parents and their child coming to discuss the reason why they’re coming into therapy. This portion will be used later on in time.
