Concert Environment and Audience Reaction
The performance was in Fresno State's Concert Hall. It was a large room with about 300 seats that extended upward facing the stage floor. They had rows of chairs set up for the orchestra to perform on the stage, with music stands in front of the chairs and the big instruments already set up and prepared to play. The lights were bright while the audience was filing in and taking their seats, but once the performers came in the lights focused on the stage and the performers. The audience was a mix of college and high school students, family, and friends who were either dressed up or in casual clothes. There were Flutes which created high pitched sounds that were manipulated by the keys and finger holes. Along with the Flutes were Piccolos, which are small flutes pitched an octave above a regular flute. Clarinets, straight cylindrical tube with a flaring bell and a single-reed mouthpiece, were also played using finger holes and keys. Alto, tenor, and baritone Saxophones were visible with their single-reed mouthpiece and a usually curved conical metal tube. Trumpets which are soprano brass instruments that are equipped with three valves for producing variations in pitch were heard. There were also the brass instruments, French Horns that produces a mellow tone and Trombones that produce many different pitches. Lastly, there were percussion instruments by which sound was produced by one object striking another, by being scraped, or by being
