Diary of a Wimpy Kid takes place in a few different places. It’s based in a suburban town in the USA. The plot is taking place in Greg’s home, school, his neighborhood, and his grandma’s house. It takes place in present times. Greg is in school during the book as well. The main character is Greg Heffley, he narrates the book. Greg has trouble with his friends, friends, and at his new middle school. Somehow and someway, Greg always finds a way to get through his problems. Although, he handles them in a somewhat creatively way. Like most middle school boys, his antics tend to backfire on him. Rodrick Heffley is the oldest brother. His soul living purpose is to terrorize Greg and play in his band The Loaded Diaper. He is famous around the Heffley …show more content…
He’s your typical goody-goody. He is loyal to Greg. If Greg tells him to do something, he may whine a little, but he’ll be willing to do whatever it is. His family isn’t particular fond of Greg because they think he’s a bad influence on Rowley. Their family goes on vacations a lot, which annoys Greg because he’s jealous.
Greg Heffley is starting middle school this year. His brother, Rodrick Heffley, is teasing him because his mom bought him a blank, red diary instead of the journal he had initially asked for. Greg also has a little three year old brother, Manny, who’s spoiled rotten. Unlike Greg who gets in trouble for everything he does, Manny gets everything he wants. Greg spends his life lazing around on the couch with a controller in hand. His father, Frank Heffley, is very disapproving of Greg’s lifestyle. He’d rather Greg spend his time outside playing sports.
On Greg’s first day of school, he is immediately classified as a geek and is banished to the outcasts. He is forced to sit with another geek, Fregley, who lives near Greg but Greg tries to keep a safe distance from him. Greg is worried about his best friend, Rowley Jefferson, not being able to fit in. He believes that Rowley is too immature for middle school. Therefore, he tries to change Rowley. To try and fit in, Greg and Rowley try out for wrestling. Rowley excels in the sport unlike Greg. Rowley leaves Greg in charge one day when Rowley is sick. Greg decides that it’ll be funny to chase the kids around with a worm on a stick. A neighbor witnesses the unusual behavior and calls the school. Thinking it was Rowley, the principal revokes Rowley’s Safety Patrol privileges. Greg was given the Safety Patrol position. Greg doesn’t tell Rowley about what happened and how it was his fault. He accidently let the truth slip later. This results in the end of their friendship. Greg made the weird decision to befriend Fregley to make Rowley jealous even though Fregley creeps him out and he’s uncomfortable around him.
To try and find something fun to do, Greg tried out for The Wizard of Oz play. He landed the role as one of the angry trees, and his arch nemesis, Patty, landed the lead role as Dorothy. Greg is disappointed the director won’t let him throw apples at Dorothy because it’s “too violent for a school play”. The night of the play, Rodrick brings a camera along with him to the show. Greg already knows Rodrick’s plan, he decided not to sing his part of the script. Patty gets very annoyed at Greg and starts yelling at him. Greg gets angry and throws apples and other props at Patty. The play ends in a big
