In the song, Pickett bought the woman a Mustang, hence the name Mustang Sally. As he is singing the song, he is telling how she is driving around in her Mustang, but she is paying no attention to the man who bought her the car. Pickett warns the woman in the song with the line, “Guess I have to put your flat feet on the ground!”
