Although this is true, the tools advertisements use are used over and over, presented in unique ways. Political advertising, however, is a way of presenting a message in order to attract viewers to their side of the competition. With the election between Clinton and Dole in the year 1996, political advertising was used with many persuasion techniques by bribing the viewers to move options towards Clinton and creating the other side of the competition, Dole, as the wrong choice. To avoid this, political announcements use new (and the same) tools in order to persuade their viewers. In “Surgeon”, the use of Ad Hominem is used by luring people to vote for Clinton while giving Dole a bad image. They show a part of Dole’s speech claiming a negative view on schooling. The effect this has on the audience is that it makes people disgusted and disappointed. The purpose of this is that is mainly drives people towards Clinton by making Dole look like an irresponsible president. In retrospect to this, a form of Defensive Nationalism is used creating a sense of, “if we don’t vote for Clinton, Dole won’t be able to aid our children into following their dreams and getting an education”. The effect of this is also to make parents frightened and uneasy in voting for Dole which eventually becomes the purpose of this persuasion tool. Simple solutions is an easy tactic for this political announcement, also containing bribery; representing how if the United States does not vote for Clinton, children who are less fortunate won’t get an education. Along with this, Clinton bribes the audience with discounts for schools and endless opportunities for children to follow their dreams.
