Weaknesses Of Willies Essay

The first weakness of Willies’ is occasional overemphasis on particular employees. This action is detrimental to the transformational leadership theory because “without balancing the needs of the group with the preferences of individuals, however, you could overemphasize the needs or contribution of a single member” (Duggan, 2017). An example of how Willie demonstrates this is occasionally he would call on his two “favorite team members” for special choice assignments. This often irked other members of his team because it made them feel not as important and valuable. One time, one of the team members got involved in a conversation with one of the leaders’ “favorites” that turned out ugly. It escalated into an argument and caused some dissention …show more content…
This action is detrimental to the transformational leadership theory because the team and employees view this behavior as being “not concerned about everything going on”. Willie is such a visionary looking through a macro-operational lens that often some of the micro-operational things are overlooked. With a four hundred person department to lead, he often doesn’t have the time to put out every little fire. There was a time when one of the ramp agents had an issue with one of the passenger bags. The handle broke off and the agent was attempting to reattach it to the bag. Willie happened to be walking by and the agent asked him to help but he was late for a meeting. The agent didn’t get the help he felt he needed and he was upset that “Willie didn’t care about that problem”. This situation started little ripples among the agents that stirred some dissention that the supervisory team had to …show more content…
Enacting this recommendation would lead to the team’s and departments ability to set expectations of seeing the macro and the micro processes. Willie often loses focus of the small things going on in the department because of size and complexity of the department. Nicholls states “leadership as "influence on individuals" without using power or authority” (1988). This influence the lead possesses can be viewed as negative when an employee’s concern is not properly heard and understood. By Willie improving on this recommendation, the team will see that even the small details of the operation are important and need consideration to be rectified should a problem

Sevin Murdock Mrs. Koop Junior English 06 November 2014 As Huck fin continues to sky rocket into one of the most read original American novels more and more debate rises about the message the book is really sending to its audience. I believe that Huckleberry Finn should continue to be taught in public classrooms because when the novel is analyzed in correct environments it realistically expresses racial problems and corruption of society in the early 1800 's. While Huckleberry Finn can be offensive and misunderstood in many ways; a valuable message also lies deeper than just in the literary text. The novel is, in many ways, one of the most beneficial novels incorporated in American schooling systems today because of the realistic views on racial…

Nigger. Schools and other scholars want to banish this word from The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain, because they are concerned for those who are sensitive to this word. This book should not be changed in any way. Twain wrote what he wanted others to read. For him to write “nigger” 219 times should clearly mean he had a good reason to do so.…

As measured by FEVS, DHS has been on a steady decline since 2010 and is now ranked last in the area of leadership scores when compared to other Federal agencies. To make matters worse, though DHS has an understanding of the problem, the department actively hides recommendations (Markon, 2015, p. 3). With the continued lack of implementation of recommendations, employees have little if any assurance that things will change anytime soon. The only solution to this ongoing problem is for DHS to facilitate sustained leadership which can then implement lasting change across he multitude of agencies. Change in strategy…

Hi John, I was also disturbed by the machine deciding who lived and who died. I understand birthrate quotas and caps for a society that has to contend with the aftermath of any disaster. Quotas and caps may cause morality and ethical issues (as we have witnessed in China), but the survival of a society should be put first. The destruction of the earth was definitely in that realm of thinking. The committee had to make the difficult decision to limit the birthrate to when a person died.…

Society doesn’t reward defeat, and you won’t find many failures documented in history books. In John Carroll's essay Failure is a Good Thing, He talks about his belief that success is overrated and how he thinks that our failures should be better accepted. Carroll's beliefs is that one must live life without being afraid to fail because doing so gives us the power to take risks and do things that have never been done before. He thinks our failures are how we can learn to deal with life's problems.…
