William Zinsser’s “How to Write a Memoir” gives excellent advice on how to write a good memoir. He gives great suggestions as “Be Yourself,” “It’s your story,” and “Think Small” (Zinsser, paragraph 2, 4, 6). Usually, if you follow this advice you will have a successful memoir. “A Summer Life” by Gary Soto is a memoir told from a child’s point of view.” … I write from the point of view of the child I once was…” In Gary Soto’s memoir he tells about memories he had growing up. The chapter “The Bike” tells about how Gary let some little kid run over his ankle with a tricycle. This memory obviously shows that since Gary was older than the little boy he thought he could take the pain.” The Taps” was a chapter when Gary tied little taps to the soles
