I believe that this is an injustice to the student. It is not simply parents that are pressuring us to do well, it is the whole family. For example, I’m more responsible and successful at this point in my life than my older brother was at this same point. However, he wants me to be successful just as much as my father does. There is also the fact that I have three younger siblings that I have to set good examples for and that is a pressure because I would be the first to graduate college and if I fail, what would they think? Zinsser mentions in his essay, “ What I wish for all students is some release from the clammy grip of the future. I wish them a chance to savor each segment of their education as an experience in itself and not as a grim preparation for the next step.” I find it very hard as a college student to not worry about the future. I had to make the drastic decision to switch my major. After three years of thinking I wanted to be an English major, my freshman composition class showed me that teaching English was not for me. So now, I have to start thinking of my future again while I try my best to just enjoy things as I have
