With her father, the only male in the household, taken away and her mother unresponsive, Parvana becomes the one with the most experience when it comes to the ‘outside’ world. ‘Outside’ being outside the confinement of their small and cramped house. Parvana seems to be the most suitable for getting more food, water, money and all the essentials of everyday life. I can imagine it being very hard for her, going out in public, to the market, to find that you are the only odd one out. Also, imagine if the Taliban found out what she has done! Going to the market without the permissission of her father, what a horror that would be- finding out that women can have their own freedom and ideas. On a more serious note, we also know, because it is mentioned in the book, that the women always have to wear burqas when out in public, they have to learn to hold their tongues and hide their faces, because consequences happen to young women who do not follow the rules. However, even though see might be scared, there is no other alternative. In order to survive she must step out of her comfort zone, be courageous and help not only her family but the hopes of women
