William Sylvester Harley also known as Bill lived during three of the hardest times in American history including World War I, The Great Depression, and World War II. William Harley was born on December 29, 1880 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Three years after that the Civil Rights Act of 1875 was deemed unconstitutional. The act outlawed racial discrimination in juries, schools, transportation and public accommodations; the act was deemed unconstitutional because the Supreme Court said that the constitution did not extend to private businesses. In 1903 the Wright Brothers had their first flight in Kitty Hawk, NC. The Wright brothers flight was the first powered airplane flight that was controllable.
