Being a teenager is a confusing time. A lot of emotions, such as love, hatred and jealousy mixed together to create a prefect storm in Romeo and Juliet’s mind. The result is often unpredictable and the outcome of mistakes are often irreversible. The Capulets and the Montagues have been rivals before Romeo and Juliet’s existent, firmly establishing the barriers between the two families. The two families are not allowed to interact, but the love between their offsprings will challenge the rigid rules placed on them. Their passion for love is so strong that it rattles fate and takes Romeo and Juliet to their downfall. As for Romeo, in that period of time, he is expected to be a gentleman, also expected to be like Paris, who is always kind and caring, and well-dressed all the time. Many looked at Paris as any perfect man that a woman can have in the world, and that he was so perfect he seems to be like a sculpture made from wax. Romeo was hoped to behave with more maturity and to act like Paris who takes great care of even the maids and servants. When a man contains all these qualities, they are considered as an ideal figure that any male desires to be in Verona. However, Romeo did not act and obey to the expectations of the time and often participated in silly actions.
Romeo and Juliet shared similar tragic flaws where they both possessed loyalty to each other and their spontaneous youth have brought them to their downfall.
