Romeo and Juliet Essay: Killed By Love
By: Sidney K. Have you ever been in love? The tale, Romeo and Juliet, is a tragic love story that takes place in Verona Italy, in which the main protagonists attempts to be together are cruelly destroyed by numerous components. William Shakespeare embellishes four of these many components more than any of the others; Friar Laurence, society, the Lord and Lady of both Montague and Capulet, and the lovers themselves. These factors quickly try to destroy Romeo and Juliet’s love and lead to deep sorrow, for not only the lovers, but for their family and friends.
There are many bad decisions made by Friar Laurence in Romeo and Juliet that connect him to the lover’s deaths, but the marriage between Romeo and Juliet is where it all began. This first example, if avoided, could have not only spared Romeo and Juliet’s lives, but anyone else involved as well. Without the help of the Friar, the two lovers would have never been able to fulfill their wishes to be married. He unwisely agreed to marry Romeo and Juliet, even though he was aware that this could later cause problems. The Friar realized Romeo’s mistake in rushing with Juliet, a girl he hardly knew, when he was previously just in love with the beautiful Rosaline. He said, “.. Is Rosaline, whom thou didst love so dear, so soon forsaken? Young men’s love then lies not truly in their hearts, but in their eyes” (II iii 66-68). Romeo then answered, “I pray thee, chide not; she whom I love now…
