My definition of love is the feeling so strong about someone that they are willing to do anything for them. According to Merriam-Webster love is “a feeling of strong or constant affection for a person”. These definitions both have one thing in common, love is a strong emotion to experience. The power of love is stronger than any emotion and can overcome any obstacles, especially its opposite, which is hate. This is due to the fact that the people in love are willing to do anything to be with each other. The Capulets and Montagues despise each other for an unknown reason. When Romeo decides to attend Capulet’s party because of his best friend, Mercutio convincing him. At the party, he ends up meeting the love of his life, Juliet, at the party. Although, there is one major problem standing in the way between the two from freely loving each other, the fact that their families are in a bitter rivalry with each other. Romeo went to Juliet’s balcony where they discuss their love for each other and how Romeo is “death proroguéd, wanting of thy love” (2.2.78). Romeo is proclaiming that he would be fine with the consequences that comes with loving Juliet, such as her family killing him. Even though they both know that they should not be with each other due to hatred between the families, they decide to ignore it. Their love for each other beats the hate between the two families because they are willing to risk their lives to just be with each other. Furthermore, Romeo asks Juliet to marry him and they both decide to do so. With the help of Friar the “Holy Church incorporate two in one” (2.6.37). It is forbidden for the two to get married because they are enemies but they still did it to show their love for each other. Shakespeare wrote his play with a purpose in mind of sending this message. To show how powerful love can be and although it can be good, there is a bad side to it too. Almost everyone loves someone or something and usually whomever they love makes them happier. But they need to realize that love comes with consequences. People are willing to do anything in order to defend or be with the one they love. Shakespeare’s message in his play reminds people of this message, which is important because people always see love as good and never as something bad. People realizing that love has two sides to it will help them handle this strong emotion. Love is very powerful and everyday people experience the strong emotion, by realizing if love is determining their actions, it can help people make better and rasher
