Grieved I, I had but one? Chid I for that at frugal nature's frame? O, one too much by thee! Why had I one?”. The monologue is also focused on disappointment and anger which is obvious in the third line where he says “do not live Hero do not ope thine eyes” Cleary stating that he would rather have his daughter dead than have a daughter with an unclean and unfaithful reputation on her name and her families. The significance of my monologue in this play is also through the disowning of Hero and how ashamed he is to be her father. His monologue expressing such disappointment to such a great extent makes the ending where Hero is proved innocent that much more significant which was Shakes spears aim by adding such a dramatic monologue regarding Hero cheating. My costume of all white is symbolic for the setting where the monologue takes place which is at the wedding and my tone of voice is symbolic for the anger and disappointment which Leonato is currently feeling in that scene. The two versions of Much Ado About Nothing that I chose were the 1993 version, directed by Kenneth Branagh, and the 2012 version directed by Joss Whedon. The two interpretations were drastically different from one another, but I think that the 2012 version was the funniest. In the 1993 version, the director also plays the character of Benedick, and the play is interpreted as the expected period piece. Unlike the 2012 version; the 1993 version displays a more jovial atmosphere all throughout, but the happiness of the characters does little to make the play funny. The happy atmosphere is demonstrated by multiple scenes being interpreted as party and picnic scenes with many laughing people who are not mentioned in the script.…

Though the original connotations and presumptions associated with a title like “Much Ado about Nothing” leave much (or really anything) to be desired, in the case of this play the word “nothing” ironically holds many meanings and great thematic weight. In describing his love for Beatrice, Benedick asserts “there’s a double meaning to that” and this same principle applies in regards to the title (cite). The first interpretation outlines the obvious, asserting that many of the play’s events are based on events that didn’t happen as a result of people being deceived. The second interpretation refers to the subjects of all the fuss, the physicality of the females.…

Benedick maintains the belief that ‘he will live a bachelor’, although as the play proceeds, his feelings become clear and that he is ‘horribly in love’ with Beatrice. Beatrice and Benedick deceive each other again at the masquerade ball. While Beatrice pretends to not know that she is dancing with Benedick, she begins to insult him by calling him the “prince’s jester” and that “none but libertines delight in him”, all the while Benedick believes that he is deceiving Beatrice into thinking that he is someone else. There is another example of deceit at the masquerade ball involving Don John ‘the Bastard’.…

In the book Much Ado Bout Nothing by William Shakespeare, there is a decorated soldier named Claudio, who succeeded in wooing the woman he cherished named Hero but, I don’t he should have been given the second chance to woo her. First of all, Claudio was insecure about asking for Hero’s hand himself, so he asked his friend Don Pedro, who is also the prince of Aragon to ask for her hand in marriage from his behalf to Leonato who is the father of Hero. He thought that someone who has a very high-status in the kingdom will increase the chances for Hero to say yes to his proposal. You can also interpret this as Claudio’s arrogance because he thinks highly of himself and doesn’t want to show any weak spots in him to his peers, or he is too scared…

In Shakespeare’s play Much Ado about Nothing, each character was developed perfectly in order to fully present the plot at hand. As an author, Shakespeare carefully planned the usage and characteristics of each character in his play. He used language, comedy, and the personal attributes of each character to really develop them in his writing. After continuing to read more of Shakespeare I see that he not only did this for Much Ado About Nothing, but he makes sure he develops his characters carefully, but also perfectly for the plot at hand. In Much Abo About Nothing, there were many characters that I feel Shakespeare carefully took his time developing.…

The Dark Side Of Humanity Bernadette Devlin believed that, "To gain that which is worth having, it may be necessary to lose everything else." This quotation signifies that sometimes in order to gain something substantial you must first give up what you have. I agree with Devlin, as in life we tend to hold onto dark pasts and if we let them go we would know that there is more to gain in life. Both the Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne and Much Ado About Nothing by William Shakespeare support this analysis by presenting to us the nature of evil in society, it can drag you into a dark hole if you do not withdraw yourself. To explore this concept with a feminist lens I will examine Hester Prynne and her daughter Pearl from the Scarlett…
