Macbeth's Adaptation Essay

There are a number of possibilities that a whole play can be adapted away from the original text of the play. Adaptations can be loose or follow right along with the what the initial author wrote about, however the interpretations may not be the same because the new editor or director may not know what the author was intending. The different adaptations of the play Macbeth, written by William Shakespeare, contrast the character development in Act III Scene iv, in a way that affects the development of the plot, as well as the reactions of the audience. In the real text of Macbeth, Act III Scene iv is dubbed, or what is known as the banquet scene. The scene described Macbeth walking into the room and seeing Banquo sitting at a seat saved for him, even though Banquo was recently killed. He was seeing the ghost of Banquo, and no one else saw. Macbeth was thought of in that moment as “ill,” his guests kept asking questions as to why he was acting in such a way. Lady Macbeth, his wife, stepped in and made mostly everything seem like it was normal. After Macbeth was calmed down, the ghost reappeared and again he seems like he is crazy talking to a figure only he has seen. The characters can actually be seen in this movie instead of the written text where a reader has to use their imagination to really get a picture of what the characters and the setting look like. In the same scene the movie depicts this banquet as being in a large room with gold decorations all over. Macbeth and the what seemed like higher clergy sat at a table away from all the other guests and soldiers. When the ghost of Banquo appears, he is not sitting in Macbeth’s seat, he is actually in the crowd as a hallucination sitting where someone else is
