Hamlet and Ophelia
Some love stories have endured through the harsh objections of society with some ending in tragedy. Romeo and Juliet had their secret love affair. Marc Antony and Cleopatra had their complicated relationship. Desdemona and Othello’s biracial union was greatly opposed. Hamlet and Ophelia were from opposite social statuses that forbade such a union. Even with the odds against them and plenty of obstacles keeping them apart, no one can deny that Hamlet and Ophelia were indeed sincerely in love with each other.
It is clear that an intimate relationship had been growing between Hamlet and Ophelia. When Laertes is getting ready to leave to return to Paris (Act 1, Scene 3) he warns Ophelia about spending time with Hamlet. Laertes

Polonius and Claudius hide when Hamlet approaches Ophelia where she is reading. We already know that Hamlet is very disgusted with his mother and he feels she has betrayed his father’s memory and honor for marrying Claudius. When he is talking to Ophelia he realizes their conversation is being heard. He begins to say some pretty harsh words to Ophelia and some of his words are not making sense. He is crushed when he realizes Ophelia has betrayed him too. He believes Ophelia is going along with their conversation being secretly heard by her father. These lovers who were forced to be apart because of their different social statuses still managed to find love in each other’s arms. Even when Hamlet put all his energy and time into avenging his father’s death, his love for Ophelia never faltered nor did her love for Hamlet dare weakened. If she had been given the chance to work through her heartache maybe it wouldn’t have ended so tragically. Maybe Hamlet and Ophelia could have been the new King and Queen of Denmark. After all, Queen Gertrude was ready to accept her as her new daughter in law at one point. Gertrude had hoped that Ophelia would be the one who would bring Hamlet out of his madness and help stabilize his mind and in order to prepare to take on his role as King of Denmark, with his Queen Ophelia by his side, his one true love
