When William Shakespeare was born in the mid 1500s, the world did not know what talent and what change to the world he would bring. Shakespeare was a brilliant man with many talents. Because of his education and many different influences, Shakespeare developed a great skill for writing, becoming the greatest English playwright. William Shakespeare was a well-known poet and playwright. Almost a dozen years before the theatre in London opened, a man by the name of William Shakespeare was born. Shakespeare was born on April 23, 1564, a time otherwise known as “the Elizabethan Age” (“William Shakespeare”). Shakespeare was born in a tiny, country town outside of London called Stratford-on-Avon. John Shakespeare is the father of William Shakespeare. He did not continue in his own father’s footsteps. Instead, he pursued a different occupation. John’s wife, Mary Arden, was William Shakespeare’s mother. After getting married and settling in Stratford, John established himself as a glover and a whittawer. (Holland 2). Mary Arden and John Shakespeare were parents to six children, William Shakespeare being the oldest. Gilbert, Joan, Anne, Richard and Edmund completed the Shakespeare family. Anne was the only Shakespeare child who did not reach adulthood; she died just six years after being born (Holland 3). Joan was technically the first child, but she soon died during her infancy.
