In Shakespeare’s well-known play, Hamlet, the ghost of Hamlet’s father divulges, “But that I am forbid/To tell the secrets of my prison house/I could a tale unfold whose lightest word/Would harrow up thy soul, freeze thy young blood” (Shakespeare, Hamlet, Act I, scene v). The people who would interpret this as a hyperbolic autobiography of “Shakespeare” are the same people who are convinced that “William Shakespeare” is a pseudonym. There are hundreds of different theories about who really penned the plays attributed to Shakespeare, and though lots of money has been devoted to research this intricate problem, no conclusive evidence has been found. People from every walk of life have made cases for various people; prominent scholars such as Mark Twain strongly believe(d) that Francis Bacon was the true author, while others, including Sigmund Freud are strong advocates for Edward de Vere. And of course, there are many scholars who still firmly trust that William Shakespeare from Stratford-upon-Avon truly …show more content…
Sir Francis Bacon, Viscount St. Alban, was a very respected and prominent scholar from the Renaissance, was the designer of the scientific method that is still taught today, and was “a worldly courtier, a talented writer, a learned jurist, and a brilliant philosopher” (Shapiro, Contested Will). He had a vast range of literary and scientific achievements, and pursued basically everything except for playwrighting and poetry. If he had also compiled the one of the most distinguished portfolio of plays and poems in the world, combining two of the most genius minds in the Elizabethan Era, Bacon would indubitably be considered the greatest man of the Renaissance. Also, he cuts a figure much likelier to write the plays than Shakespeare from Stratford because of his higher education, intimacy with the law,

The first notion made about Bacon writing Shakespeare’s plays was made by Delia Bacon. She said that they also needed to stay anonymous because they were “a little clique of disappointed and defeated politicians who undertook to organize a popular opposition against the government.” (Document A) “According to her, drama was politics by other means: “Driven from one field, they showed themselves in another,” she wrote. “Driven from the open field, they fought in secret.” (Document A) Miss Bacon claimed that many of the plays contained codes and ciphers related to politics and about the true authors of the plays.…

One of the greatest playwrights of all time was William Shakespeare. He, like many famous individuals, was not terribly popular when he lived. He wrote more than 30 plays and did many other works as well. The plays he wrote captivated the audience, and told story's like no other. He built his own theater, and used the money he got from it, to buy his family the second largest estate in Stratford.…

The nineteenth century Shakespearean authorship question proposes the theory that William Shakespeare the Stratford man, was essentially not the author of the well-known Shakespearean plays. This theory in attempts to provide an answer to the question: “If it was not Shakespeare, then who wrote the Shakespearean plays” gives the response of a plethora of different prospects, now most common Edward de Vere Earl of Oxford. This conspiracy however, produces far more questions than it offers answers. William Shakespeare the Stratford man is indeed the author of all the Shakespearean plays, this can be proven through history, reason, and the overarching idea that more evidence is against Edward de Vere being the author than evidence that advocates this theory.…

“It is undeniably painful to all of us,” he said, “that even now we do not know who was the author of the Comedies, Tragedies and Sonnets of Shakespeare.” Doubters of Shakespeare’s credibility range from Henry James, Charles Chaplin, even to Orson Welles to Helen Keller all from different backgrounds. Joseph C. Hart, the conspirator, and Delia Bacon, writer and Shakespeare scholar were both Americans, but put thrived in finding who the real writer was. This just proves that you don’t have to come from England to love Shakespeare (which was proven today by the numerous places around the world his plays are read and taught.) “Members of other nationalities, too, have at times enjoyed the sense that they know the ‘real’ Shakespeare better than do his compatriots: during the early 20th century German conspiracy theorists particularly favoured the Earl of Rutland, for example, though their French counterparts preferred the Earl of Derby, and in Austria Sigmund Freud, in a classic instance of the fantasies about secret aristocratic origins which he had identified in children, placed his own ill-informed faith in the Earl of Oxford,” says…

William Shakespeare, England’s greatest and most influential poet, was born in 1564 AD in Stratford-upon-Avon, United Kingdom and died in 1616. Shakespeare is widely considered to be one of, if not the, greatest writers of all time due to his notably unique and intricate style of writing. No other writer’s works have been produced so many times or read as widely in so many countries throughout history. Although Shakespeare technically only possessed the education of an eighth grader, he had the lexicon far surpassing even modern day individuals with a PhD. His exceptional ability to select specific words from his massive vocabulary allowed him to apply said words situationally in order to best represent a mood or feeling within his writing.…

However, over the past couple centuries, his authenticity is one that concerns a lot of scholars. The amount of knowledge and skill requires for someone to have written these type of works does not match up with Shakespeare’s background. From looking at what Shakespeare has left behind, and from a couple proven writings, some perceive Shakespeare to have been a pseudonym for a much more known actor and writer of the time. William Shakespeare was born in Stratford-upon-Avon, England, in 1564.…

Shakespeare’s Timelessness One of the questions most frequently posed, even these days, is: What makes an author, a creator timeless? As much as skill and dedication play an important role in gaining recognition, these are not the only characteristics necessary to determine whether that certain writer has carved his/her name in the rough stone of immortality, whether he will remembered after centuries. For instance, during Shakespeare’s time, there were other playwrights too, extremely talented but who are not as celebrated and appreciated as he is today. In this essay, my purpose is to talk about Shakespeare’s legacy and what made him, as Ben Johnson held: “Not of an age, but for all time”, focusing on his still tangible influence over the…
