Written, Not Spoken A well-known man in many places, from many different opinions who stood up against the odds to help fight for human rights as an activist, this man is William Lloyd Garrison. Garrison is best known as an activist who fought for African Americans and women. He is also well known for his famous newspaper The Liberator. He never gave up and never subsided into anything else when times got rough. Having failed numerous times before he would keep writing, eventually creating his own newspaper. “The Liberator’s motto read, ‘Our country is the world – our countrymen are mankind.’ The Liberator was responsible for initially building Garrison’s reputation as an abolitionist” (Bio. A&E Television Networks). Trying to prove the point that all men in this country are the men that represent what has been built up. If these men weren’t in the country the land that was built up from an idea would later crumble down. Its almost as a representation of the beginning of Garrisons writing career. “When Lundy offered Garrison an editor’s position at Genius of Emancipation in Vermont, Garrison eagerly accepted. The job marked Garrison’s initiation into the abolitionist movement” (Bio. A&E Television Networks). Writing is a way to express many emotions and points following along with change. His pieces were some that helped to change the minds as well as influence a large amount of people to stand with him and make a change. When this job came around, marking his initiation into abolition, meaning Garrison is almost fully invested. Fighting as if he was leading his own little revolution against the people. Though he wanted peace and nonviolence, it was ultimately those whom fought against him were the ones to cause harm. Beliefs extended into believing that everyone is equal no matter what. Not mattering about the person or he amount of melanin in their skin. Abolitionists are known to be the people who take physical actions in fighting and speaking aloud. Garrison fought with words on paper creating a newspaper that would affect many lives. Many fought against him in that time. Even when those times got rough to the breaking point William Lloyd Garrison never backed down, never giving
