Before one can understand the complexity of such a relationship between two prominent abolitionists one must first understand their personal upbringings and histories. William Lloyd Garrison was born in the year of 1805 in Newburyport, Massachusetts. Garrison was only three years old when his father abandoned the family (William Lloyd Garrison Biography). This caused Garrison and his siblings to grow up in poverty. Garrison was mostly a self-educated man and had almost no formal education. This obstructed his path to success and made it a longer and harder road to travel. It was in 1818 when he had his first apprenticeship at the Newburyport Herald he found his true calling in life (William Lloyd Garrison Biography). Through this experience
