William Griggs's Article 'Rape Does Not Justify Adoption'

Improved Essays
William Griggs expresses his opinion through his claim reasons and warrants in his article. Griggs big claim for his entire article is "Rape Does Not Justify Abortion." His reasons for that are God given children are miracles. If God has given a woman a child then that alone is a miracle, because some woman can never have children. Women should be grateful they could even conceive a child. Another reason Griggs gives is the mother does not have to keep the child, but instead of killing it put it up for adoption after birth. This gives both the mother and child a new start in life. One small reason he makes is life goes on, the child can be adopted, find a home, and have a family who will love them unconditionally. Another good reason he gives

Griggs must have known this was a debatable subject because he uses logos, pathos and ethos in article to really prove his point. Griggs uses logos when he quotes Julie saying "lies have destroyed nearly 40 million pre-born children and disfigured the lives of tens of millions more." Griggs also quotes Dr. Charles Rice of the University of Notre Dame Law School saying " to allow for abortions in the "hard cases" is to say that the question of which babies will be killed is negotiable." In this he is giving us an expert opinion of someone who practices law. Another way is by bringing the Roe v Wade case which shows a historical event.…

According to the website guttmatcher.org, 40 million abortions are performed worldwide every year. Some mothers abort their child because it was a pregnancy result of rape. under this condition, I completely support the mother because it wasn’t her choice and the child would probably have psychological problems if he knew what happened. But a mother aborting her child because having a baby is not in her favor is totally…

All Persons Have a Right to Life The idea of abortion is always a tough subject to talk about. Some people believe it is morally right to have an abortion but some people like Judith Jarvis Thomson think it is wrong to have an abortion. Thompson does just argue that abortion is wrong, she claims that abortion can be justifiable. Judith is right in her belief that abortion is wrong because the fetus is an innocent person and killing an innocent person is always wrong.…

Judith Thomson created a very strong, concise argument in defending abortion, in which she believes that it is not morally plausible to deny a mother complete rights and jurisdiction over her own body when impregnated. Ultimately, I believe the person carrying the fetus has the right to decide whether to abort or not, which defends Thomson’s argument. Thomson discusses certain thought-experiments which are hypothetical situations that I believe help prove the point that abortion is necessary in many situations. Without the option of abortion, women will be forced to have children that they are unprepared for, leading to more neglected children. Also, not to mention the fact that in many cases, pregnancy leads to medical complications that can only be solved through abortion or else the mother will die.…

Every 107 seconds, an American is sexually assaulted. An average of 32,101 pregnancies result from this each year. Believe it or not, there’s a way to save the lives of all 32,101 women: abortion. As stated by Hillary Clinton, “We’re always going to argue about abortion.…

Pro Life Vs. Pro Choice “One in three women will have an abortion by the age of 45.” Meaning around 43% of women in the U.S. population will have an abortion some time in their life. The definition of abortion is “the deliberate termination of a human pregnancy, most often performed during the first 28 weeks of pregnancy.” Therefore, abortion is immoral and unethical because it is the intentional killing of a human being.…

Thomson and Hursthouse both have come to the conclusion that abortion is impermissible but there are acceptable situations in which abortion should be permitted. In my opinion I agree with both Thomson and Hursthouse but in the end the conclusion of Hursthouse is the view I could see making both sides of abortion acceptable. When a woman and man conceive a baby knowingly, getting an abortion will only occur in the event of a health risk or the chances of the baby living after birth will be so minimum. By choosing abortion before letting the child get to full term is less painful than carrying the baby to full term and giving themselves false hope. It is understandable that some may want to fight for that chance but there is the option of abortion.…

With this given, I would strongly support a woman’s right to do an abortion under certain circumstance of rape or unplanned pregnancy. Although it is mentioned that, “Every person has a right to life. So the fetus has a right to life.” (Thomson, J.), it cannot be morally wrong to commit murder towards the fetus if the mother is doing an act of self defense in this case to save her own life. Thomson states that a fetus has a right to life at the moment of conception (Thomson, J.) but thoroughly explains how the fetus cannot overweigh the pregnant woman’s right of life so therefore, it does not begin at the moment of…

In recent discussions of women having abortion, a controversial issues has been whether it should be against the law or not for women to have an abortion. On one hand, some argue that it should be against the law for women to have an abortion because some a portion of the population thinks it should illegal since the mother is ending her pregnancy by killing the baby. They believe it is considered murder since the mother is practically killing the fetus. On the other hand, however, others argue that women should be allowed to have an abortion if they want to because if the individual believes that she is not able to support the baby or does not want to have it due to personal issues, then the mother should be able to abort the pregnancy.…

Everyone knows that raising a child takes a lot of responsibility, time, and costs money. When abortionists say that abortion is good for people like rape victims, it is a good argument. However, the majority of people who have an abortion are not rape victims. The main reason why people have an abortion is because that person feels as though they are not ready to raise a child. So when people who are pro-choice make the argument that abortion is great for rape victims, it only a…

Abortion can make someone’s life or break someone’s life. This is something that in my opinion is a very misinterpreted thing in such a way which is very wrong. I say this because people think that it’s the right thing to do if they know that they won’t be able to take care of the child. A lot of woman who experience unintended pregnancy undergo abortions also. Hospitals around America stopped providing the choice for a woman to have an abortion.…
