Bullying is a serious issue in the country, as it’ll have dire consequences. For example, a twelve year-old Florida girl was a victim of bullying which led her to take her own life. The bullies were fifteen minor girls, which makes us wonder if, bullying is an intrinsic part of nature. I don’t think it is, bullying is an adapted behavior that is caused because of a person’s environment and surrounding. In Lord of the Flies, it shows how a person’s behavior has drastically changed due to their surrounding. When the boys landed at first, they all got along trying to figure out a way to get off the island. However towards the end of the book, this wasn’t the case with two groups forming for control of the island. Jack has always been jealous of Ralph, since Ralph was elected as leader. and the priorities for them are different. All Jack cares about is his hunting, and his warrior like mentality has always made him …show more content…
We already witnessed how one girl took her own life because of bullying, but there are other effects to the victims. In the documentary, “Bully” we noticed the victims get picked on frequently, being called names and experiencing physical actions. However, the disappointing fact is that people were aware that this was going on. For example, the educators knew about the bullying but they didn’t know how to respond to that. In one case, a principal called the bully and victim over to address the issue. But, all she did was ask the bully to say a meaning less “sorry” and shake the victim’s hand. Or sometimes, the educator might say they are trying to resolve it despite the parents of the victim telling her repeatedly of their son being bullied. This shows how bullying is caused by a person’s environment since nobody is taking any useful actions. The actions that were taken would probably not stop the bully from picking on his victim since they would know that nothing would happen to

This book was about a group of kids who get stranded on an island and have to survive on their own, despite all of their differences. When they first arrive, they elect Ralph as their leader. The main antagonist, Jack, disagrees with this but goes along with it anyway. The boys find a conch shell and agree that this will be their form of government.…

Franklin D. Roosevelt once said, "If civilization is to survive, we must cultivate the science of human relationships - the ability of all people, of all kinds, to live together, in the same world at peace." This quote explains the book Lord of the Flies in its own way that with out civilization we cannot cooperate like we normally would. With out peace we could go insane. Bullying: Why It Happens The documentary Bully, directed by Lee Hirsch argues that bullying is an on-growing social problem occurring in America that is not receiving the acknowledgment it deserves. The film shows how oblivious adults ignore the issue and classify it as a normality, while also showing a clear insight to the mental and physical abuse kids face everyday. Hirsch supports his argument with his successful use of ethos, logos and pathos by weaving together the stories of five different families who have first hand experience with bullying, making them reliable sources. The directors purpose is to inform the audience on bullying and to create a new realization of this ongoing issue, so kids can rise above and empower one another…

Philosophy is a very influential field of study. It allows for some professors to ask some very poignant questions. For instance, what would happen if a group of children were removed from civilization and placed into the wilderness on a remote island with no hope of rescue? Depending on the philosopher, one would receive conflicting answers to this question. The children would form a government and try to cooperate to survive, or the youth would devolve into a state of chaos with no laws or morals and eventually end up perished.…

In Sir William Golding’s Lord of the Flies, the author depicts the imperfections of human temperament. Golding illustrates these defects through human children. Without a source of authority, the dark side of human nature is unsuppressed by rules, morals and structure, enabling society to retrograde to primordial instincts. Golding highlights this deterioration with complex symbolism consistently throughout the novel. As observed in the novel, witch lack of positive influence, the children become less civil.…

What, ultimately, is the message of Lord of the Flies? Through his novel, Lord of the Flies, Golding manages to portray the adamantine link between human savagery and civilization by proposing they occur simultaneously; they can be obscure or one can predominate the other but neither can be extinguished completely. Starting off with depicting the civilized part of the boys as more dominant and eventually settling into a state of savagery illustrated by Jack’s rule, Golding plays with the human nature. In an attempt to make sense of it and to explore human mentality, he succeeds at outlining the reason for conflict; the conflict between two concomitant aspects of human nature inside of us. When the boys arrive at the island they are functioned…

Great literature is said to end with a resolution of the central conflict, while creating lingering conflicts for the reader to ponder. Lord of the Flies, by William Golding, is no different. The final chapter, characterized with suspense and bewilderment, creates new conflicts the moment the Naval Officer arrives on the island. When the officer materializes, the scene of someone, an adult, on the island is baffling. The boys are bare, or fashioned in rags, painted in clay, and filthy from head to toe.…

The philosopher, Socrates, believes that mankind is inherently good. He argued that no one desires evil and that no one does wrong willingly or knowingly. Humans are often viewed as inherently evil because of their actions throughout history, events such as the Holocaust and World War II are used as examples to emphasize this. When considering these tragic events, it is often forgotten that those involved are human as well and experience the same emotions an average person would.…

Gender equality has come a long way since it was first introduced. As such, the idea of equalizing the sexes has developed and strengthened over years of protests, arrests, uprisings, and rebellions. Every century, ideas about equality, men being less domineering, more caring and less animalistic have developed and merged into everyday life and their behaviour is not as primarily distinctive. One novel that does not distribute this idea and its attributes correctly is William Golding’s ‘Lord of the flies.’ Since it was written in a time where men were dominant, it does not properly reflect on how society is in the 21st century today Golding’s novel should not be studied in schools because it portrays incorrect ideas of how men and young boys…

The Central Symbol is the Lord of the Flies If one was stuck on an island among a group of unknown children, no adults, and no sign of rescue coming soon, the logical outcome is that they would start to lose touch with reality. This is what happens to most, if not all, of the characters in William Golding’s novel Lord of the Flies. He uses the symbol “lord of the flies” as the root of all evil in the entire story, and it is what sets the entire plot in motion. It causes the characters to behave as they do and is the reasoning behind the choices they make.…
