William Golding’s novel Lord of the Flies shows that humans are malicious through the murder of Simon (pg. 202). Simon was the outsider of the group and very spiritual. He often wandered off by himself to meditate. Simon is brutally beaten and killed by the group of boys who believe he is the beast (pg.202). The group of boys stab him over and over many times until he is dead. It is unknown whether the group actually knew they were killing Simon. We can see this in the gory killing of the sow, which was the only thing supplying a constant demand of meat on the island. At this point in the novel Ralph is left with Piggy. The twins, Sam and Eric, have been captured by Jack. Piggy and Ralph wander up the mountain to Jack’s camp to find the twins guarding. They tell Ralph how Jack has beaten them senseless. Roger, Jack’s companion hurls a boulder down the mountain. Ralph dodges it but Piggy isn’t so lucky. The conch shell is crushed along with Piggy (pg. 181). The conch was the only sign of order and civilization on the island and now that it is gone all hell breaks loose. Piggy is dead and Ralph is left to fend for
