Man is given a Paradise
In the short story Lord of the Flies by William golding the setting starts out as being paradice with a mountains jungles for the boys to explore and hunt while they survive on the island. The island is beautiful with no wreckage from the plain or sign of civilization or adults, this lets the boys feel free to do whatever they want without parents or cicity telling them no. Their first instincts as Locke and Hobbes predicted would get together as a group and form a John Lock kind government with Ralph as the leader and jack in charge of the hunters. The boys spent their days playing in the pool and eating fruit as well as a pig when the hunters catch one. The mental and physical health of the boys are great because none of them are hurt and don't miss their parents much to start. On the island there seems to be two forces fighting each other Lock and Hobbes, each character seems to know what one they are but ralph is a little different. Ralph is a complex character and has many Lock moments but just as many Hobbes as the book goes on.
At first Ralph embodies the human characteristics discussed by John locke. In the story Ralph is described as a Locke type of leader “But there was a stillness about Ralph that marked him out; there was his size, and his attractive appearance; and most obscurely, yet most powerfully, …show more content…
Jack took over the tribe and moved it to the far side of the island, Ralph and Piggy go to see them to talk things out. Ralphs “temper broke” in a rage of anger against Jack calling him a “swine and a bloody bloody thief!” (179). This anger is caused by Jack stealing piggy's glasses, Ralph sticks up for Piggy calling Jack a thief. Ralph had held back his anger for so long and finally he snapped and called out Jack making him a Hobbes kind of
