William Golding's Lord Of The Flies: A Leadership Analysis

In times of crisis, people need a leader to guide them and Ralph fulfills those qualities by being prepared and focused. In Lord of the Flies, Ralph and a group of boys are stranded on an island after their plane crashed. To keep the boy’s in check and to help themselves get rescued, Ralph becomes chief to lead the group. However, Jack split the group up since he disagreed with Ralph and had a different mindset on what should be done. It is important to have a leader because they keep the group together to get rescued. They also have respect for the ideas and opinions of the other boys. However, Jack also has leadership qualities such as being confident and teaching he boys how to hunt for food. Overall though, Ralph from Lord of the Flies by William Golding shows more of the qualities of a leader and would make a better leader since he respects the personal freedoms of the other boys, gives out jobs and work to do fairly, and he is focused on keeping everyone safe and getting rescued. He gives off those qualities by first allowing all the boys personal freedoms.

Ralph respects the ideas and opinions of the other boys by using the conch and he allows them to have freedom to do what they want. Not only that but Ralph helps with the jobs that need to be done and distributes them fairly. Additionally, he keeps the matter of shelter a main priority so everyone will have a place to sleep and he keeps the fire going. All the evidence in Lord of the Flies points to Ralph being a superior leader and especially since Jack ordered the killing of Ralph. A leader is a person who leads or commands a group and Ralph fits that
