Like a school has a bell that notifies the students to report to their class, the island has a conch that is held by the leader. When Ralph found the conch Piggy gets an idea and says “We can use this to call the other. Have a meeting. They’ll come when they hear us-” (16). The conch shell symbolizes the law and the rule civilization. It is used to call assemblies and used as a kind of microphone that allows them to speak if they are holding it as said by piggy “They’ll come when they hear us-.” Their first law is focused on the conch. This shows the fairness and equality for everyone because everyone gets a chance to say what they feel. They can “Have a meeting” every time the conch is blown or if there is any problem the leader can give out a warning by blowing the conch. Losing someone in your life is not easy. Ralph and Piggy had been really good friends and were close to each other. Simon was also one of the victims of death. Ralph was most affected from piggy’s death. At the end of the novel it says “Ralph wept for the end of innocence, the darkness of man’s heart, and the fall through the air of the true, wise friend called Piggy” (202). This shows how much Ralph cared about Piggy. They had been together since the beginning of the book. Piggy was a “wise friend” and helped Ralph and others on the island in many ways than they might have noticed. For all Piggy did for the kids, Ralph was really thankful and really missed Piggy. As said in the quote “Ralph wept for the end of innocence.” Piggy was very innocent as he had caused no trouble to anyone on the island.
