In the three books that were studied in English this year, all three had characters that realized something about what was going on around them. In Romeo and Juliet written by William Shakespeare, Romeo and Juliet realize how horrible the hatred between their families really is, in Persepolis written by Marjane Satrapi, Marji realizes that parents do things to keep you safe and in Lord of the Flies written by William Golding, the older boys realize that there is no chance that the boys are going to be rescued off the island.
In the first book, Romeo and Juliet, the young couple find out how deep the hatred between their families truly is. To begin with, Romeo shows up at the Capulet party and is almost immediately threatened. Tybalt, who saw Romeo at the party, wanted to start a fight and Romeo had done nothing wrong other than be a Montague and show up at the party. In Romeo and Juliet, the young lovers realized how deep the hatred between their families truly is. The realized this by the reaction when Romeo showed up to the Capulet party, how Juliet’s father reacts to Juliet saying she would rather marry the enemy, also known as the Montagues and that the only way for them to be together was to die together. In the book Persepolis, Marji realizes that parents, make rules to keep their kids safe. She realized this when she found out she could be arrested for not wearing the Hijab in public, when she went to a demonstration, after being told not to, and was almost arrested. Finally, in Lord of the Flies, the boys realize that they are not going to be saved when Simon realizes that their fighting is going to get them all killed, they missed signaling a ship because they were too unorganized and when the boys split themselves up and were all missing
