William G. Morgan originally named the game “Mintonette” when he invented it in 1855. William was born in Lockport, New York on January 23rd, 1870. He was a director of physical education and good friends with James Naismith, who was the inventor of the beloved game at the time, Basketball. Morgan later was interested in recreational sports. He heard of the issue that men could not undergo the sport of Basketball anymore, due to the physical contact and the fragileness of men getting older. So he challenged himself to create a game with “A strong athletic impulse, but no physical contact.”
