Each chapter would get into details of Miss Emily's life, but then would leave you wondering. What kind of woman is she? Who is Homer? They mentioned he liked me, so what were his motives? What were her motives in being with him? Why did she need rat poison, and who was she going to kill? Details in the story point toward Homer, her male companion. If she felt like he was going to run from her, in a desperate time people do desperate things... so maybe she felt like to spend her life with Homer she had to make sure he could never leave her.
