In 1779, at the age of 18, William Carey left the Church of England to follow Christ. At first he joined the Congregational church at Hackleton where he was a shoemaker’s apprentice. While in Hackelton, Carey regularly took five mile journeys to Olney, in search for more spiritual truth. Olney was a stronghold of the Particular Baptists, the group that Carey associated himself with after his baptism on October 5, 1783. Two years later he moved to Moulton to become a schoolmaster and after a year, he became the pastor of a small Baptist congregation in the area. Carey prayed, pled, persisted, and preached; on May 30, 1792, Carey preached this message, “Expect great things from God. Attempt great things for God." The result of that message, and all the other missionary ministries of Carey, produced the particular Baptist Missionary Society, formed at Kettering on October 2, 1792. Through this society, Carey was able to work to get the funding needed to go on his missionary

He was very vocal on his thoughts about the separation from the church and state as well as his disapproval of confiscating land from the Native Americans, and the Massachusetts governor and his assistants didn’t want him putting those thoughts into peoples heads and so they decided to banish him, but not before he could disappear from Massachusetts. Winthrop and Williams shared a friendship, Winthrop welcomed him as “a godly minister” (Bremer), so when Winthrop got word of the banishment coming for Williams he warned him of it. Williams hurriedly got everything he needed and left Massachusetts.…

I think I was one of the first 20 people in line, and I had my copy of The Art of Drowning ready for the famed Billy Collins to sign.…

Analysis Essay: "A Model of Christian Charity" In 1630, Puritan layman and leader John Winthrop delivered a sermon to the Puritan people on board the ship Arbella while en route to the Massachusetts Bay Colony. Unbeknownst to him or those in attenedence, his sermon would go down in history and serve as a defining literary example of American colonization. The main purpose of his speech can be linked to preparing the puritans on how to develop a new society in a dangerous environment. During the sermon, Winthrop reminded the colony of its purpose and the reason for existence.…

Gordon’s purpose in writing The Master Plan of Evangelism was to examine the evangelism principles used by Jesus Christ (called “The Master” by Dr. Gordon in the book) during the days of His flesh. Dr. Coleman emphasizes the fact that his purpose was not to study and write about the methods used by Jesus but rather the principles which governed the methods. The Gospel accounts of Jesus’ evangelistic ministry are the single source used by Dr. Coleman in this volume.
