Will Smith, an American actor, once stated, “If you're absent during my struggle, don't expect to be present during my success.” This quote is important because it has great meaning. It simply conveys that hard times will reveal your true friends. In other words, those who are not there for you when you need them most are not your true friends. These are the people you hang out with due to a common interest, or because you see them five days a week. My grades in high school went from straight A’s to F’s. My friends knew about it and no one cared at all. No one helped motivate me to focus on school. It was like they never even knew me. I had been interviewed by several people and my old “friends” saw me on TV. They read my name and immediately recognized me. These adults who spent their teenage years partying every night are now jobless. They came to me begging for money so they can have a future to look forward to. I reminded them of how they treated me when I thought I could count on them. People like them do not deserve my help. I had not seen them for twenty years and they suddenly start treating me as their best friend. It was time to start
