As a freshman in the institute, you go through a lot. That includes the plebe system, where the upperclassmen pretty much torcher and humiliate the freshman. The taming was also a big deal. Upperclassman would usually find the weakest freshman who did not belong there and made them leave. But for Will that was not a problem, nor was it a problem for his friends Mark and Pig. Tradd another friend of Will had a problem with that. He was so feminine the upperclassman would call him
“honey prince”. As a freshman that affected him, but with his friends by his side he knew that the upperclassman could not break him.
Will was never afraid of the institute. He knew if he kept his gaze down and made sure he listened to the upperclassman, no harm would be done towards him. “They broke me that night and they broke me quickly. It did not take them long to find my point of vulnerability. I did not fear heights or insects or open spaces. I feared them”. Will was fine being with the upperclassman cadres with his friends. But this time his friends were not around and Will was all alone. He never stated in the book that he had any fears. Will assumed because he was not allergic to anything or afraid of heights the cadres would not do the taming to him but that was completely false. He would come out in the book as a freshman tough and hard to break down. But the cadres found his weak spot and went for
