Will King Letter To School

Will King

My first service hours was taken place at Saint Barnabas Catholic school on 9/18/16 with my friends and I was reffing CYO games. Some obstacles I had with this service was being able to get the right amount of hours needed since there was a lot of people who wanted to ref for service hours. The problem was that I may get in trouble for not knowing what call to make in reffing which could affect my relationship with all the people I knew at my parish. This was a project of living out my faith because in my religious life I want to be able to see people that I have known a long time throughout my life. Knowing people your whole is good for your religious life because when you’re struggling in life, you will be able to know those people

In the sixth paragraph of King’s letter, he describes that, while the clergymen “deplore the demonstrations,” they are not as concerned about why the demonstrations are taking place. In the following paragraphs, King goes on to explain that Birmingham is one of the “most thoroughly segregated” cities in America and that King and his associates have gone through all the steps of a non-violent campaign in the city. These non-violent campaigns, however, were not working for Birmingham, and all the “humiliating racial signs” were eventually put back up on store windows. So, since the campaigns were not working, King was forced to turn to direct action. Using direct action was a way for King to “dramatize the issue,” so that people would no longer…

In today’s society, people are swept up in the wrath of being too prideful, or become greedy. These deadly sins deaden our religious life, causing us to distance ourselves from God’s path. Everyone must dig deep into their spiritual lives, and lend a helping hand to those who need it the most. Whether it’s simply having a conversation with a homeless person, donating money, or volunteering at a daycare for the destitute children, these charitable acts can make a huge difference in someone’s life. My service learning experience was an eye opener for me, and it made me realize how privileged and blessed I truly am.…

An experience that changed my life forever was coming to Northwest Christian for high school. Before I attended Northwest I spent all of elementary school and middle school at Rancho Solano. Although my time there was great, it was taught in a strictly academic worldview. Then during my eighth grade year, I made the decision to enroll in Boulder Creek High School. I began to get nervous because of the change in size, but then I started to embrace the idea of change.…

I am truly honored as being a nominee for the Easton Chapter National Honor Society. The standards that must be proven to be nominated by this prestigious society are an example of the hard work and dedication I have exemplified in school. Throughout my years of schooling, I have tried my hardest to get good grades, while also demonstrating the characteristics that make up the National Honor Society; they are leadership, service, and character. While I have exhibited all three throughout my educational career, I feel that my service characteristic stands out above the rest. Service can mean many things, but to me, it means helping someone perform a task they can’t complete themselves, sacrificing your time, and assisting the less fortunate.…

Eight teens, two adults, and one box shaped van. This was the base for the Bethany Lutheran Church teen group as we headed four hours north to the 2015 Bethany Lutheran church summer mission trip. Me and a crazy group of teens canvas to help spread the news of a vacation bible school that kids in the community could attend later in the week. Calvary Commission, the seminary that I stayed at, is located a few miles out of town on a land that seems to never end. I could walk miles and still find myself to be on Calvary Commission’s property. The first day I was there, my group and I went on a little hike up to the prayer chapel, which sat on the top of a hill, surrounded by trees, and a bonfire pit stood a few feet away. This was my group’s first real exposure to how great the people at Calvary Commission are.…

For my pastoral interview, I choose to interview the Senior Pastor of Huntington Central Church (Disciples of Christ) Rev. Jacque Parlato. I started the interview by asking Pastor Jacque to describe her call to ministry. More precisely I asked her to describe her calling from the time she first received it up until now. During this question Pastor Jacque began by telling me about her background and early life. She informed me that she was born and raised in Santiago California, to parents that she described as people who didn’t have everything put together.…

It was my first year being an independent teacher for Vacation Bible School at my church. I had taken this initiative seeing no one else was up for the challenge to teach six to seven year olds, even though the meeting for VBS had been filled with adults. I had an idea of how it was often helping my older sister in past years to help take the kids from class to class, but the pressure of being in full responsibility of them was something I had never experienced. It was frightening yet exciting.…
