In this book, the main character Will, gets sent a assigned a special mission with a friend of his named Horace, and a ranger named Gilan, and they are going to Celtica, a country near their hometown Araluen. When they get to Celtica, they see that everyone is gone. They went to search a couple towns and realized that all of them have turned into a dessert.
