Goodrich Company and helped develop the first pressurized air suits and discovered the jet stream. In 1935, he began to construct a new aircraft that would allow for takeoff and landing on bodies of water. The plane was completed by July 1935 and ready for takeoff. Post wanted to give it a long distance test run. Accompanying him was Will Rogers, an American humorist and friend. Rogers and Post departed in August. After a short stop in Alaska, they prepared for takeoff. Shortly after departure, Post lost control of the aircraft and crashed in the pond near Point Barrow, Alaska killing both men instantly. Wiley Post’s body remains were transported to Oklahoma for burial (Remembering Wiley Post and Will Rogers).

Throughout Wiley Post’s lifetime, he accomplished many things. Even with his academic struggle, he still managed to follow his dreams and enroll in a school for aircraft. As for the hardships he faced, such as losing his eye sight, he still didn’t give up. In fact, just a couple years later he beat multiple records as well as his own. Throughout the American Southwest, airports and aeronautical schools have been named in his honor. Post’s brief flying career and record-setting flights led him to become one of the world’s most famous pilots and a prominent figure in Oklahoma
