Everyone is excited to see the wild ponies. Kids pointing, sister picture snapping, husbands talking and laughing, and I’m gripping the seat wondering if Assateague Island will be as enjoyable as our normal beach day. The bus approaches the drop-off point and the chatty bus driver warns us to be cautious of the wild ponies. He then proceeds to tell us about a person who thought they could ride the ponies. “That person did not make out very well.” remarked the driver with a chuckle in his voice. Standing in the aisle of the hot bus, we are waiting for him to finish warning us about the wild behaviors of the ponies. I am now imagining leaving the beach by ambulance due to a horse bite or kick. We walk up the hill, and envision the
