Looking for an answer, when it is right in front of you. Natalie Goldberg author of Wild Mind Living the Writer's life, published in 1990. The author explains in Stalkers and Dreamers that our society in America is a Stalker society. Our Dreamers have camouflaged themselves to survive. I believe I am both, but mostly a dreamer. Natalie shares her friend's experience, Eddie, and his two sons, Joey and Matt, on how they learned to ride a bike. "Joey, the older one, is a stalker, and Matt, the younger, is a dreamer" (Goldberg 21). Goldberg shows Ethos throughout the reading of herself.
Joey learned by being patient with his father. "They practiced. Joey followed the instructions, and within a short while he could ride a bike" (Goldberg 22). I am like Joey when it comes to writing. When it comes to dancing. I need the demonstration of moves for a routine making me a stalker, but I apply my own feelings, thoughts, and energies through my movements creating it as my own as a dreamer would. I don't feel comfortable freestyling in front of others because it is almost sacred for me when I dance. Natalie states" I have to dive in and then look up through the wet eyes and ask after many tries" (Goldberg 23). I have to too. Natalie characterizes as a dreamer. I create the moves in safe space, my mind, and if they feel right I express them. My mind is like a dance dictionary I have seen so many different movements I have just yet to try and execute them on my own. Carlos concludes "We require both Controlled abandonment and controlled folly in both waking and dreaming." We need both stalking and dreaming in our daily lives. We need to be able to lose control and forgive ourselves and accept the way of our own
