Throughout the last century, great pioneers have shaped our modern world, society, and technology. Wilbur Wright was born in Millville, Indiana in 1867 to Milton Wright and Susan Koerner. He was the older brother of Orville Wright, who was born in 1871 in Dayton, Ohio, and invented the first airplane with. Wilbur was the third of seven in his family. According to The World Book Encyclopedia, “the boys attended high school. But neither received a diploma” (499). He moved a lot to state to state because, his father’s ministry. They traveled to Dayton, Ohio where he enrolled in Central High school. In 1885- 1886, he played hockey for school, until he got injured and stayed home for three years. Most of the jets, helicopters, and planes came from Wilbur’s idea of the airplane. They were able to use his invention and develop it for warfare. According to nps.gov, “Aware of the events unfolding in Europe, the United States government called for a rapid expansion of the air corps.” Later they increased their aircrafts from 21,000 to 354,000 by the end of 1941. This demonstrates that without the help of Wilbur in manufacturing the warplanes, the United States would have lost World War II.
