There are downsides to every civilization and way of life. Perhaps instead of considering which society had the most advantages, it is more important to think about which had the most unbearable customs. In this case, there are invariably more reasons why Lycurgan Sparta was a less desirable place for the average citizen than Solonian Athens. Lycurgus was a lawmaker who introduced measures to help with wealth distribution and make each citizen an equal servant to the Spartan state.…
For the interview process, the two people that I interviewed were Martha Millison and Cecilia Rivas. Martha Millison is a school counselor at Green-Wood Charter School in Philadelphia and Cecilia Rivas is a CUA chief management supervisor. When both Martha and Cecilia came and spoke to our class, I was so intrigued by what they said that I wanted to know more about their work field. I especially found Martha job interesting because she works in a school setting and that’s where I want to work. I really enjoyed interviewing these two women because when I finish college I want to work with children and both Martha and Cecilia work with children in different ways.…
On November 28, 2016, I interviewed Martha Ashlock. Martha is a Lactation Consultant at DePaul Hospital in St. Louis. The first question I asked Martha was what made her choose that profession. She first started her profession as a nurse in the maternity/ labor and delivery department because this was the area that was willing to hire her after graduating. A couple years later, the hospital closed and she started a new job at a different hospital as a case manager.…

The Peloponnesian War by the end of the fifth century before the common era commenced with Sparta’s fear of Athens’ rising power. Sparta a primitive, economically challenged land power, led the independent states. In contrast, Athens an advanced, economically wealthy sea power, oversaw alliance states. Even though they both were state super powers, there was a noticeable difference in their culture, economic background and how they led the subordinate states of government. As well as, Sparta’s and Athens’ strategic approach to war, in the beginning, was dissimilar but in the end, the tables would turn and the Sparta would be victorious.…

Books that gain popularity amongst the public tend to have a straightforward, easy to follow outline that includes an introduction of the main characters, a plot following one of the characters and a conclusion that resolves the issue and brings together a happy ending. Martha’s Half-Breed doesn’t follow this outline and because it is based on her life it shows a dark reality to this world that the author thought might not be welcomed by the readers, by focusing on her childhood and omitting the other sections he might have thought it would have appealed to a larger audience. Half-Breed starts off with the innocent childhood of Maria as she starts off with a description of how her family came to be which consists of her parents, siblings and her great grandmother Cheechum. She grew up in an area where she was surrounded by her own people and that’s where most the stories she tells happen. This first part of the book, the childhood, sets a tone that is completely changed once you read past it, while Maria does acknowledge her awareness of the racial injustice towards her people by their white neighbors at the time, the setting still has a happy, dark comedic spirit to it that accurately reflects the innocence seen through a child’s eyes.…
Rebellion’s It was not common for revolts and rebellions to spark up during the Roman occupation. Many slaves had the idea, took action but always failed. They were lacking something that two men in particular had, some say they were “touched by the Gods” or even being born from them the deities themselves. This was not the case for Spartacus and Eunus.…
Sparta and Athens were both successful City States in Ancient Greece. Although they both were located in the same country, they both had conflicting views on several issues and they were different in the way they operated. The Athenians cared more about learning and the arts, while the Spartans were focused on military training and following orders. The two city states had different governments and social make-ups. Although the challenging city-states of Sparta and Athens were individually different as well as governmentally diverse, they both managed to become dominating powers in Ancient Greece.…
