How would you feel if you were playing a sport you love but then work so hard for it you wind up getting so hurt you will never be able to play again? Or what if you actually hate the sport but your parents want you to play and then you get so hurt it affects you for the rest of your life. Sports in high schools have always been a thing and they should absolutely not be. Students can get seriously injured and have life threatening consequences, and the schools are just not taking care of the students so why even have them at all. According to Dr. Douglas Casa, the CEO of the University of Connecticut’s Korey Stringer Institute, “people are just not implementing evidence-based medicine and policies at the high school level. I’m not saying they’re not interested in it, but they’re just not doing it.” this means that parents, teachers, and coaches know about all of these dangers yet still after decades of these horrid injuries, no one has done anything to stop them. Casa also said “States and schools, he said, aren’t putting the right policies in place to fully protect their athletes.” additionally “More than 100 kids have died from high school football-related injuries in the last decade” according to data from the University of North Carolina’s National Center for Catastrophic Sport Injury Research. This obviously proves that the schools just aren’t safe anymore. The schools aren’t putting the proper rules and regulations in and students are getting seriously hurt from this.
