In the fast paced world we live in today full of new technology, social media, etc. It can be very hard for young people to slow down and become more in touch with themselves. Reading is a task essential to any person who wishes to become more educated, open-minded and wants to expand their views on the world. So it is essential that we to place a higher focus on ensuring young minds are exposed to more books. But if expanding your mind isn’t enough then hows this: reading will help you discover yourself as a person and grow mentally. Yes this is a tough world we live in. And I bet you struggle daily with trying to figure out who you are, don’t you? Well stop being so insecure. Find yourself. Do this through reading. Be exposed to endless amounts of stories and perspectives that teach you about human emotion and empathy. For example, studies from the university of Toronto said that “romance novels are highly likely to promote empathy and reading artistic literature makes people more empathetic and understanding”. Read and you will become a part of experiences you never had the opportunity to have yourself. Allow yourself to step into someone elses shoes. Feel their emotions as if they were your own.
