Steps To Determine 5 Visualize Your New Space

Improved Essays
You’ve lived in your apartment for many years and have acquired more stuff than you thought possible. Your space is filled with everything you own and your dedicated supplemental storage compartment on the ground floor is filled to the brim too. Now, you’re ready to make the move, to a larger apartment, a condominium or to your first house. Much work needs to be done first, so we’ll examine the steps you must take to move forward.

1. Purge what you don’t need. The first step here is this one: deciding what items should stay and what you should discard. And by discarding that should be taken in the broadest sense of the word — not just throwing items out, but selling or donating them. Purge what you don’t need and keep the rest.

With what you have in your apartment right now, how will it fit in your new home? You need to visualize where everything will go and plan accordingly. It can be a great idea to make a blueprint outlining where every piece of furniture will be placed. You can then pack each box and mark (as well as color-coordinate with stickers) where every item will reside.

6. Notify others about your move. About one month before your move takes place, begin reaching out to the following to tell them of your pending address change. These include: the postal service, your creditors, utility companies and anyone else who would need your new address. If you are moving out of the area, then assemble your medical and dental records. And don’t forget the veterinary records if you have a pet!

7. Tie the loose ends. The days leading up to your move can be so stressful. This is where asking friends and family to help can relieve you of much anxiety. Consider hosting a “pack it” party and invite your skilled packing friends to assist you. Provide a meal (sandwiches or pizza is ideal) as they work and you’ll get the job done in no time. Don’t forget to pack a special box and a bag for items you will need while the transition to a new home takes place.
