Why you no speak Spanish?

The car window was all the way opened and the breeze felt good. The sunlight was making me tired, my palms were sweating, and my legs were falling asleep during the last two hours of the 15 hour car trip. I stared at the map of California that was sitting on my lap and my main focus was to get us safe to Los Angeles. In the summer of my sophomore year in high school, my family and I were going on a trip to Los Angeles, California to see our family. ‘You need to know how to speak Spanish’ is the phrase my family would always tell me when I was growing up. They would always tell me that people that know how to speak two languages would get paid more and being bilingual is a huge advantage when getting a job. When I was little, I was stubborn when they tried to teach me Spanish because I would always fail. Spanish was a language I really did not focus in and was willing to learn. The California road trip helped me open my eyes and taught me a valuable lesson. With this experience, I learned that I needed to learn Spanish in order to communicate with my mom and help me in the future.

I was sitting on the passenger seat. I was nervous because it was my first time that I was in charge of taking us somewhere out of state. I had to navigate my family to Los Angeles, California.
