Why Writing Is Important

Decent Essays
Growing up with these interests as a kid helped me better my understanding with other people, places and things. Reading stories that other people create wonder my mind on an adventure of excitement, thrill and suspense. My love for writing also expanded my mind and helped me open up to new, interesting ideas. I could no longer have a closed mindset if I was going to excel in both reading and or writing. When all's said and done I will be taking the lessons I have learned not only in the classroom, but throughout life and put them to good use into my work so that I can excel in my future of reading and writing.

I learned that writing wasn’t that important in being a speech/ theater director. Writing was used a lot to become a Speech teacher because of all of the papers and speeches he had to write and present. But not after the degree was received. As a writer, your brain can get to be a pretty cluttered place. Characters clammer around and chatter all day. Works in progress and burgeoning ideas vie for attention. Daydreams and brainstorms rise and fall from the surface of consciousness like a swell at sea. Without proper vent, the authorial mind quickly becomes a frustratingly crowded place, and it can become hard to extract a single, linear thought from the teeming mess.…

In the beginning of the semester, we were asked several questions relating to “Writing Is Not Just a Basic Skill”, a commentary by Mark Richardson. When I had finished answering all the questions, I was confused. So many other students were agreeing that writing was not a basic skill. I was writing essays since I was nine and writing was never hard for me. I seemed to have been the only student confident enough about their writing to say that it is a basic skill.…

Writing is a tool. Like a hammer you use to put nails into walls, or a dart you use to hit the bullseye, a pen or a computer can be utilized for convenience, or like a knife used to kill, it can be used as a weapon. Of the many uses of writing, I believe the most effective is when it’s being used as a tool to communicate with people. I once had the misfortune of coming across a person on the internet who didn’t believe that people with autism should be allowed to be in romantic relationships with people without autism. This person, whom I shall refer to as Sally, wrote that autistic people were mentally deficient and therefore not mature or intelligent enough to ever find love.…

After nearly three years of college, one discerning thing I have come to realize is that far too many people overlook the importance of writing in the workforce. An individual who hones a high quality of writing has proven to possess a vital skill. Regrettably, so many people graduate without having acquired such practical skills. I am most certain that the knowledge I have gained thus far in the writing courses I have taken at the University of California, Santa Barbara will be most relevant in the future. Pursing this particular minor will greatly strengthen my writing skills therefore providing me a solid base for when I enter the workforce.…

My prior understanding of how writing was utilized in the field of business was minimal. After reviewing the two academic journals Research in International Business and Finance and the Journal of Marketing and Communication, my understanding of how writing was created and used grew significantly. In addition, the phone call with Sarah Cook gave me even more insight and details in how writing was used in the business world. Prior to reading two academic journals and talking on the phone with a business professional, my understanding of the importance of writing in the profession of business was miniscule.…

Knowledge is clearly defined as acts, information, and skills acquired by a person through experience or education. A person who has received a quality education at an institution of higher learning will have a sizable advantage over someone who chose to limit their education to a high school level. In Writing About Writing we are given a clear example of two children who received an education and used that knowledge to escape all worldly issues and display their thoughts and intelligence through writing. Troy an African American seventeen-year old boy chooses to express his creativity through rap music and Keisha a fifteen-year old African American girl who communicates her creativity through poetry, rap music and plays.…

The major I have chosen to pursue throughout college is accounting. Writing is used quite often in the business world and can range from anything such as business letters, emails, reports, to writing business analysis articles. I was reading online about how important writing is in accounting, and I came across an article from the website psebuffalo.wordpress.com that talks all about how communication skills are changing in this industry. “Today, accounting is not just about journal entries, tax returns or calculations.” (Liu, 2012).…

In order to succeed in English classes, college students must embrace the writing process. Often, college writing professors emphasize the use of the writing process to complete essays throughout the English course, yet a majority of college students fail to embrace the writing process. College students would rather write the way they prefer and wait until the last minute to write essays. Most of these college students believe that the writing process is not an essential key to writing the perfect paper and it is too hard to follow. They believe writing can be done in a single step, and writing doesn’t have to be brainstormed, planned, drafted, revised or edited.…

The Connection between Fiction and the Imagination Reading a story to your child, spouse or reading alone sometimes release a sense of adventure, depending on the story. Many individuals use stories to learn their history, talk about their experiences, or to fantasize about a world beyond the one they live in. It does not matter why individuals decide to read, as long as the story changes some part of them by the end of the story. Stories are used to open minds of individuals that are unable to travel, or to give a person the life they are striving to have. Reading stories, fictional or nonfictional, brings life to blank pieces of paper that would be overlooked for the convenience of the modern day television.…
