Why Writing Is Important To Me

The world is constantly evolving, but as the world advances, so does the significance of many things that was important years ago. Today, reading is becoming scarce. People in today’s society rely on the internet and cellphones to gain knowledge because it is quicker and does not require as much reading. As the popularity of social media, internet, and technology rises, the demand for books and writing is slowly disappearing. Even though reading and writing is becoming undesirable, it has always been an important aspect in my life. I grew up in a house that did not require reading, but encouraged it. Ever since I was a little girl, books have always been my favorite way to pass time. Some of my earliest memories are of me being read to by my aunt. Some of my favorite stories read to me were probably Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, and Wynken, Blynken, and Nod. As a child, I was taught to be a fluent speaker and reader, so whenever I read aloud, I was told to be loud and clear. Even though reading is considered my life, writing is not my strong suit. Writing has never came easy to me because I am never able to get my thoughts out on paper like I want to. Even as a little girl, I was be able to speak fluently but not write correctly. Today, I still read for pleasure. I read when I have time in …show more content…
Comp 1 will also be able to further my knowledge in writing essays. This is my first college class and I am excited to be called a college student. I am glad that I will be able to finish some of the college courses that I would have to complete later in college. Comp 1 seems like it would be a fun yet challenging class that I would be able to learn how college grading is and the structure of college classes. Throughout life we all learn to read. Maybe on our own or maybe we were read to as a child. As a youth, I was not read to by a parent or grandparent. My brother Dale read to me when I was little as far as I can remember. Furthermore, when middle school began, I started reading on my own, but only one book made a lasting impression.…

It’s interesting, really, to see some of my old papers from middle and high school. I look back and laugh at the time, maybe around the third grade, when my classmates and I would groan and complain about having to write an ENTIRE PARAGRAPH. Now, after years of writing significantly longer academic papers that stretch far beyond a simple paragraph, my style and the depth of my topics have evolved based on what I’ve read. The most important pastime for anyone who wishes to write, unsurprisingly, is to read a wide variety of material, starting at a young age. Studies have shown that children who read more than their peers exhibit a larger vocabulary as well as more complex writing styles.…

Analysis of “Life” Society makes education essential to our daily lives because we now live in a world full of technology. I know most of my fellow classmates will agree that we cannot go a day without using some form of technology. Therefore, society plays a huge role in how people become literate or in other words, how people learn to read and write (“Bedford”). There may be many ways to become literate, but society exemplifies the main reason why I know how to read and write. As a result, I created a book with interactive text called “Life” that explores why society’s environment, customs, and technology contributed to my literacy.…

My experiences with writing have been somewhat limited until I signed up for English 101. I have to admit that English was not my favorite subject in school. Forget the image of the lone developer, sitting alone in a room coding on a Matrix-like black and green screen. No matter the code produced, developers need to be not only good oral communicators, they must also be able to write well. But we all struggle to use the language correctly and in a business where teams have developers with different native languages (my first language is Portuguese) we all need some help.…

For someone, such as myself, who rather watch the movie of a best-selling novel than a reading the novel, could be missing out on specific details since majority of novels that have been made into movies, tend to either alter details from the novel, or do not mention the details at all. That goes to show you that I am not much of a reader, which does have an effect on some of my college courses that requires reading materials for class. However, whenever I do find something interesting to read, it has always been urban-fiction novels or an African American literature by amazing writers such as Alice Walker and James Baldwin. Even since ninth grade, I have somewhat grown to have a passion for one of literatures’ greatest mystery writers, Agatha…

I’ve been writing forever. I did it all the time when I was a little kid (little, because I technically still am a “kid”); I began with animal-centric fables and eventually graduated to ten-pagers about kids with magical forests behind their houses. Even when I wasn’t writing, I was expressing in that same practiced way; I lectured imaginary audiences while making my bed and brushing my teeth every morning. The internal monologue never stopped, and neither did the laugh track; writing it down was (and still is, to some extent) a party trick. “She’s been reading since four,” my parents told their friends.…

I have never been the strongest writer out of my peers, but I also have not been the weakest. I am weak in parts of my writing such as grammar, spelling and sentence construction. The key to my success, in managing my writing process, is through organization and preparation. Through the objective of practicing ways to plan and organize material in written compositions, I have excelled in developing my writing process. When writing I have developed somewhat of a routine. This routine usually begins with reading the assignment’s rubric given to me through my professor. Then, based on the assignment, I then tend to research what is needed in order to execute it.…
