It conflicts with rules and ritual (Stuber 2011). Ritual within the sorority world are rites of passages that members go to. Women go through initiation ceremony during which time a person becomes a full member at the end of their new member period. The sororities beliefs and values can be seen in the ritual (Callais 1987). Many researchers have asked questions about how women are selected for sororities, is it on different criteria, how rigorous scrutiny, or are new members being evaluated by looks (Stuber 2011). Researchers have looked at attractiveness as a factor in recruitment. It can be a factor into choosing new members since sororities want attractive pledge classes at the end. This idea of attractiveness shows how superficial it can be to join a sorority (Kane 2016). The factor of hotness was seen when one nationals went into their school and re-interview all the girls and asked a group of women which included every overweight girl (Rolnik et al. 2010).
