Why Women Get Paid Less Than Women

If women get paid less than men, why aren’t companies hiring only women? Many people argue that women get paid less than men and that sexism is the driving factor in this. Some people claim that women earn 77 cents to a man's dollar. However, this statistic doesn’t take into account any factors, like how how men work more dangerous jobs than women, or that they take less time off. One of the factors that contributes to the wage is that man work more dangerous jobs than women and are more likely to die in workplace accidents. “71 percent of all work-related injury claims were injuries to men, twice as high as as females…” (Rob Stock). Men tend to work more dangerous and rewarding jobs statistically than women do resulting in higher wages. Another study in 2011 showed that 4,234 men died in workplace-related accidents, and only 375 women died (Mark J. Perry). This is an 11:1 death ratio. Men were 11 times more likely than women to fall victim to a fatal work-related injury. This is because men tend to work more dangerous jobs than women (who dominate low risk jobs) which means they will be paid more for the services they provide. …show more content…

Women are 42 percent more likely to take time off, they are working less days than men, and they are also not being paid for the days that they are taking off, decreasing their yearly earnings.
