WHY WE SHOULD STUDY THE BOOK OF ROMANS One reason to study the book of Romans is found in 2 Timothy 2:15, which reads, “Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.” It is very important for us to study the Scriptures. Reading the Scriptures is not merely a nice thing to do. It is not something we do simply to ease our conscience. Matthew 4:4 tells us, "It is written: 'Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.’” The Bible is a very big and broad book. If we simply read it through, not only will it take a long time, but it would be difficult to gain all the knowledge you desire on a particular subject. In order to go in depth and study certain subjects in the Bible, it is necessary to skip around. Sometimes you have to shift back and forward between the Old and New Testaments in order to gain the knowledge the Bible teaches on certain topics. For this reason, we should study the book of Romans. Even though we in this century may not be the original audience, the messages in the book still ring true for us today. In studying the book of Romans, we can better understand the need for God’s divine righteousness. The statement “If you don’t use it, you lose it,” is a very true statement.
